Affliction On Its Last Leg?
Tags: Affliction

I didn’t want to believe this, but now it all makes sense as Affliction announced their partnership with the Golden Boy promotions. It just goes on to show that Affliction is so desperate that they are willing to sleep with the devil and make a sideshow out of MMA by partnering up with a boxing promotion company. I know the Golden Boy Promotion partnership may give affliction some muscle but promoting MMA fights and boxing fights together? That’s just disturbing. The truth is the boxing community looks at mixed martial art as a street fight and not a real sport. Now you put the two together and it’s evident which one will be the sideshow.
Yahoo! broke the news on this new partnership today, but it’s truly sad to see Affliction grasp at everything possible to stay around for a couple of more months. Even if this partnership is successful, I can’t see how Affliction stays in business without true big time names that UFC has. Their best bet at this point would be to have someone beat Fedor once to get a triology out of it and raise interest for upcoming shows. Other than that, I don’t see too many options for Affliction with their current roster. Then again, that’s what happens when your whole business plan is around one superstar.
Ken Shamrock at It Again
Tags: Elite XC

I don’t know about the title of most dangerous man, but Ken Shamrock can easily beat everyone if the contest was to find the loudest mouth in the world. Shamrock was clearly “pissed off” during his press conference about his fight with Kimbo and he let reporters know how he felt.
Ken is a more rounded MMA fighter than Kimbo but he is susceptible to an early knockout so if Kimbo goes crazy on him, he might go down very quickly. I know a lot of people are picking Ken to win this easily but something tells me that Kimbo somehow connects a big blow and ends the fight. Maybe then Ken will retire like he should’ve years ago.
Tito Ortiz Signing With Elite XC?
Tags: Elite XC

There is a lot of buzz around Tito Ortiz and his future on the net. He has simply not been able to get anything done with the UFC and Affliction so far, and I doubt these guys will go out of their ways to sign this guy. Tito may still be a draw but he is no top fighter anymore. He really hasn’t beaten anyone who matters in his past fights, and his most impressive feat must be his draw against Rashad Evans.
But now there are talks that he may be close to signing with Elite XC. Nothing is for certain of course, and if history is for anything, Tito could sign with the UFC after it’s all done. But we take his word for it that there is a 99% chance that he won’t sign with the UFC.

Affliction Freak Show Moved To January
Tags: Affliction

In case you were wondering whether the affliction card would go ahead with all the troubles that they have had promoting the show in Las Vegas, Affliction VP announced yesterday that the show will be moved to Honda Center, and it will indeed include Fedor. Now I am not sure who Fedor will be fighting now that Arlovski and Barnett are fighting each other. This whole fiasco shows the difference between the good management of the UFC and the poor management of Affliction. The Affliction folks should’ve known that Dana wouldn’t allow them to hold their show in his own backyard, so that was a bad misjudgment by them. Either way, I don’t expect these guys to stick around much longer if all they have to offer is Fedor for twice a year.
Bad Blood between Hughes – Serra Continues
Tags: News

If you thought that Matt Serra and Matt Hughes were any close to kissing and make up after their fierce rivalry on the ultimate fighter, then you are sadly mistaken. Serra went out of his way yesterday to claim that he was going to “retire” Matt Hughes when they fight. The funny thing is that I actually believe him. Matt Hughes is over the hill, and he hasn’t beaten any one notable in his past fights. He has lost twice to GSP and was viciously knocked out by Alves. So it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Hughes lost decisively to Serra and retired. But in MMA, you can’t count anyone out and if you use the performance of these guys against GSP as a gauge, both lost badly. So who knows.

If you haven’t heard the news by now, Evan Tanner is not among us anymore. The former middleweight champion took a cleansing trip to a dessert and was found dead by an Imperial County Sheriff’s Department Deputy on Monday.
